DMAC held their 10th Annual Drawing Scholarship Competition on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at their campus in Boca Raton, FL. Over 30 High School Seniors participated in the competition but only 1 winner walked away with a Full-Tuition scholarship to attend DMAC. This year’s winner was Alejandra Molina, a Senior from G-Star High School in West Palm Beach, Florida. After the competition, we had the opportunity to speak with Alejandra about her excitement of winning and her story about becoming an aspiring artist!
Alejandra was born in El Salvador and moved to the United States when she was just 2 years old. Only within the last 5 years has she become a Florida native. Alejandra was always passionate about art; at a young age she said, “As soon as I could draw I had a pencil in my hand! I always dreamed of becoming an Artist.” We asked Alejandra to explain what winning this competition meant to her. Her response was, “Winning made my Family closer. It relieved all our stress about the college application process and financial aid. I had been working hard at G-Star the last few years and it finally made me feel like all my hard work was paid-off, literally.”
Alejandra’s reaction brought tears to everyone in the room. It could be best describes a look of shock, happiness, and relief. Before entering the competition, DMAC College Recruitment Specialist Candace Robles went into G-Star Art Teacher and DMAC Alumni Cedric Dawson’s classroom to collect any last minute competition entries. Alejandra showed Candace some of her work, but admitted to Ms. Robles her she didn’t fully believe in herself or think she could win. Despite this hesitation from Alejandra, Ms. Robles and Director of Admissions, Elizabeth Parker encouraged Alejandra to enter the competition, and thank goodness she did. After all, Alejandra told Mrs. Parker, “DMAC is my dream college!”
Digital Media Arts College is honored to have such a hard-working and talented student like Alejandra join us this year. Welcome, Alejandra!
