Designers can make a lucrative living, once you’ve become established. The key word is established here. Start working on your portfolio the second you begin college. Don’t wait until the day before graduation to put together your best work.

Next, consider the busiest parts of your day and what that looks like. Designers are not only organized, they’re prepared. A good designer will check with his/her team first thing in the morning of what priority tasks need to be handled first. A great designer plans ahead and makes their job list the night before. This way, if there are hot jobs needing attention, you stay on target for the others filling your pipeline.

Great designers stay up on trends in both marketing and advertising. They know what’s considered outstanding work. Designers, get inspired by looking at the other people’s work.

Designers who learn how to cut out distractions during their work day, become great! They don’t let the rest of the team’s issues distract or take up precious time. Make avoiding interruptions your secret work weapon for staying on target.

Graphic designers check their emails during certain times of the day. Once in the morning, after lunch and before going home. Emails can be one of the most time consuming, but, necessary evils. It’s important to manage this communication well.

Another thing that great designers are well known for is their ability to be adaptable to the projects they’re working on. Each day the job is different. Becoming comfortable with working on several projects, throughout your work week makes you an outstanding employee.

Now that we’ve revealed some important aspects of the job. Don’t tell anybody. Okay, we’re kidding!!! These are skills that will help give you an edge on your competition, once you’ve entered the workforce. In the meantime, direct your questions to your instructors for more guidance.
